View Point Inn Press

Bridget A Otto, The Oregonian:
“The View Point Inn, once host to stars, reopens with fine dining and scenery. Visitors come here to feast on views of the Columbia River Gorge. Worth savoring long after as well are the dishes being served at The View Point Inn. The view spills over the tree carpeted shoulders of the gorge and down river to the Glen Jackson bridge arching its way across the glimmering water. The bridge is the only indication of how close to Portland this hideaway is, and that proximity is a very good thing. To totally enjoy spending the night at the inn…the Roosevelt Suite is the only way to go here. Sumptuous bedding, plump towels, and old world charm. Fully equipped with a private bath, fireplace, sitting area and view of the gorge, the room is large enough to host a party. Not to mention that the inn is at the virtual opening to the gorge recreation area with the Historic Columbia River Highway, trailheads, waterfalls, and world-class wind surfing all nearby."

“Few things are as satisfying as getting in on a secret. Especially
one that involves a cozy, romantic getaway with a stunning view,
great food and a gifted chef. So, are you ready?
A friend told me about the View Point Inn and asked me to keep it
quiet. (Oops.) A year ago, after renovations, it reopened for lunch
and dinner as well as Sunday brunch (the inn also has four adorable
rooms for overnight lodging). | full

Restaurant Review | June 26th, 2008
by David Sarasohn, The Oregonian:
“The View Point Inn sits on a dazzling promontory in Corbett
[Oregon]. It’s a splendid panorama, especially with the sun
going down. Seeing the front lawn roll down past the pond to the
cliff can make you think it would be a terrific place to get married
– even if you already are. And some evenings, working through
an appetizer of smoked trout raviolis, with a deep smoky fish feeling
and not an overpowering cream sauce, it all works as you watch the
river roll into the twilight…" full

by M.J. Cody, Northwest Palate Magazine:
“You simply mustn’t miss The View Point Inn’s
dazzling cuisine. The inn faces west as the river widens and spreads
into the Portland – Vancouver metropolitan area. It’s
spectacular. Spectacular, too, is the View Point Inn’s sweet
onion saffron soup and the smoked trout raviolis, with Oregon truffles,
trout caviar, truffle oil, and cream sauce.”

Portland Picks:
"The View Point Inn (think Tudor castle meets bed-and-breakfast
– intimate but grand)…Dinner was outstanding –
locally sourced ingredients paired simply and with care. Every bite
made us happier. The service, impeccable. The view, divine. We felt
absolutely restored. It’s possible that this place is magic.
It’s definitely the magic that makes the View Point Inn a
cherished destination for bridal parties, weddings, and romantic
weekends that make you feel like you’re a kajillion miles
away. (Check out their cozy suites and boudoirs.) We are going back
as soon as possible, and we might stay overnight. We heard the brunch
is delish!”
"We're at the beautiful View Point Inn right
here in the Columbia River Gorge. I didn't realize the fantastic
food they have to offer. It's quite good, quite delicious. Not only
do they have great food, but they have a beautiful view. Just take
a look at the view they've got here! I wonder how The View Point
Inn got it's name? It's pretty obvious!"
– Andy Carson, Fox 12 News Live
"I'd gone far out of my way for dinner on an
enthusiastic recommendation, and I'd never heard of the View Point
Inn, even after 20 years writing about food in the Northwest. Spectacular
places so rich in history, ambiance and cuisine are usually well
broadcast. Judging by full tables on a couple of nights at dinner
and a solid booking several days in advance of Sunday brunch, plenty
of savvy diners are keeping their secret, no doubt to ensure they
get a table."
Kathryn Kurtz, The Columbian
"The View Point Inn has been enormously popular
with the public - especially couples looking for a scenic spot to
tie the knot. The west-facing alcove is all French doors and glass,
providing a dizzying view of the gorge, one of nature's most spectacular
works of architecture."
Patty Wentz, The Willamette Week
"Yes, yes, yes you've been to the Vista House.
You've seen the views. You know the Gorge. You're a native Oregonian,
for goodness sake. But have you ever seen the view from the View
Point Inn? If the answer is no, you don't know what you are missing.
The View Point Inn, you see, has something those other Gorge attractions
don't – a completely unobstructed, jaw-dropping view of the
west Columbia River Gorge."
Kelly Moyer-Wade, The Gresham Outlook
"This is incredible, this is so incredible, this
is just incredible. My comments sounded like a broken record as
I drove into the circular drive of The View Point Inn and saw the
most beautiful view of the western end of the
Columbia Gorge."
Jon Compton, Columbia Gorge Magazine
"The View Point Inn, with it's heavy timbers,
sloping roof, massive stone fireplace and series of river-framing
French doors, was built at one of the Gorge's best known views,
above the Crown Point Vista House."
Katherine Trevison, The Oregonian
"At 1,125-foot elevation, almost 500 feet higher
than the Vista House at Crown Point directly below, The View Point
Inn commands an Ansel-Adams like view down the Columbia."
Eric Mortenson, The Oregonian
"Another treasure is The View Point Inn. The
lodge's detail is divine and ornate. The inn faces romantic sunsets
and the glowing lights of Portland. The exquisite and enchanting
View Point Inn sports a warm and friendly atmosphere, breathtaking
views, and relaxing exploration."
– The Gorge-Community Newspaper Inc.
"The View Point Inn, a restored country inn built
in 1924 and named for its glorious view of the Columbia River Gorge,
perches on a bluff 1,125 feet above the Columbia River. Its long,
elegant dining room features a massive river rock fireplace and
a west facing alcove with French doors and windows that open to
views of Crown Point below. Namibian gold granite counters are installed
in the View Point Inn's new state-of-the-art restaurant kitchen."
– Kathie Durban, The Columbian
"Geoff Thompson and Angelo Simione should be
commended for moving forward the restoration and re-opening of The
View Point Inn. Thank-you for all of your enormous effort."
– Multnomah County Chairman Ted Wheeler
"The much storied Geoff "Buff Daddy"
Thompson and his partner Angelo Simione, got the greenlight to reopen
the historic View Point Inn in the Gorge after a three-year battle."
– The WIllamette Week, Winners Column
